Pavilion Though honors will largely go to Dr Adams for his years of public service his wife Mildred will get some of the kudos too their 57th wedding anniversary falls on the date of the celebration Not only that it is Dr 80th birthday Those who did not get invitations since the committee did not all of the friends of the per couple The Adamses currently are out of town so despite the announcement the party still may be as planned a surprise Adams known widely as most recently served 12 yean in the state House of Representatives where he was chairman of the committee on Social and Health Services He is a Democrat Adams served 7 yean on the Tacoma Utility Board He retired from practice as a chiropractor seven yean ago He served 19 yean as president of the Washington Chiropr acton Association and was an equal 19 yean as a vice president of the International Chiropracton Association He was president of the American Chiropractic Association in 1 1968 He was born in of volunteer opportunities was provided by the United Way Volunteer Bureau Volunteers may: Teach English to refugees and other immigrants and reading to native-born adults who are functionally illiterate Volunteer tutors will receive training in basic literacy and English-as-a-second-lan-guage teaching methods during six 3-hour sessions Training will be from 9 am to 12:30 pm Sept 8 10 11 15 17 and 18 at a downtown location Receive training Aug 29 30 and 31 to work on a 24-hour crisis line for rape victims and others concerned with issues of sexual assault Volunteer advocates will answer calls through their home telephones and provide one-to-one crisis intervention medical and law enforcement advocacy and information and referraL Assist with field trips for red-dents of a congregate care facility twice a month on Mondays and Fridays Licensed drivers are needed to drive the agency's van and other volunteers are needed to assist res- idents in and out of the van and -during the field trips Serve in a program to respond to natural disasters through a local agency concerned with disaster services Volunteers would serve on a rotating basis in an assigned geographical area within Pierce County and would be on call to the agency Adults at least 21 years old who are bondable are especially needed A three-hour orientation will be given and followed by intensive training in ways to respond to natural disasters Help with exercise activities bingo and party activities one-to-one motivational programs and record keeping to a large nursing and convalescent facility in the
